The Festival of St Cerbonius

This festival takes place on 10th October, when Massa honours its patron saint.

Every year, at around 5pm in Piazza Cavour, in the old town centre, actors dressed in medieval costumes gather and then descend along the main road as local residents, who love celebrating this tradition, line the streets. They gather in Piazza Garibaldi in front of the Cathedral.
Then the celebrations enter the cathedral where the mass dedicated to this saint is celebrated and where local Dignitaries pay tribute to the Ark of St Cerbonius.

Finally, at 5:30pm, the liturgical ceremony del Cero e del Censo (of votive candles and incense) takes place.
